This is a report (March 2006) from a study researching whether box office data is a true reflection of audiences.

The report found that those visitors whose information is not captured by box office reports are small in number or similar in profile to the audience information that is captured.

    from the exec summary this looks a valuable piece both of reassurance and - indeed - ammunition for arts marketers pursuing strategies to maximise early bookings. Ammunition, that is, against forces in organisations that wish to delay programme decision-making or to reserve tickets for on the day sale on grounds of alleged accessibility...
